I got this shirt, which is reversible, at American Apparel a few years ago when they briefly partnered with Sesame Street. When I bought it I thought it was Cookie Monster at first glance, and if you know me, you know I LOVE COOKIES, so, I thought it was perfect. Once I got home, I realized it wasn’t Cookie Monster, because Cookie Monster doesn’t have a nose or eyebrows. I was very disappointed and would have returned him if American Apparel accepted returns… they don’t however so instead I started trying to figure out who this mystery muppet was. Soon after asking my boyfriend who is “always right” and getting an “I don’t know” answer (which I rubbed in his face just a little), I turned to google: “Blue Muppet” was the search and there was the answer- This Muppet is Herry Monster (yes, spelled Herry) and he is on the list of “Forgotten Muppets.” All the sudden I liked him. I wanted to give him a place where he’d never be forgotten… my closet.
Every time I wear this shirt I get tons of compliments. People meet me facing the plain simple white loose fitting top that comes off as conservative but then always crack a smile¬†and sometimes even giggle¬†as I turn to walk away. Some spot me from behind and come up to tell me how much they like it. Thanks to the “ice breaker” effect this shirt has, I usually wear it to an event where I don’t know anyone and it’s: ‘either meet people, or spend the evening bored and alone’, I don’t even have to try with this top on, people come up to me, and they come with smiles.
What conversation starter pieces do you own? Do you ever put them to good use like I do?
With Love from Hollywood, Kier
P.S. We went to see a movie in this outfit and I brought this scarf, which I bought at the Fireworks store in SeaTac airport months ago to keep me warm on a flight. Because it’s always cold in the movie theater too, this little bubbly scarf came to mind, I think it added a bit of extra flare, don’t you?
