National Pink Flamingo Day!

Pink Flamingo Day
Pink Flamingo Day:

Today is National Pink Flamingo Day so I thought I’d bring you my favorite adorable pink flamingo fashions!

The national holiday “Pink Flamingo Day” was declared in 2007 by Dean Mazzaralla, the mayor of Leominster, MA.  The intention was to honor the work of Don Featherstone, creator of the plastic lawn flamingo. We now know how toxic and harmful plastic is, but back then, plastic was the norm. Sadly, still to this day, there are more plastic flamingos than real ones in the world. To show your love for pink flamingos on Pink Flamingo Day, decorate your front yard on June 23 with a sign that reads: There are more plastic flamingos than real ones. “Plastic Kills”. If you already have plastic flamingos, feel free to add them to the display, otherwise, DO NOT purchase more plastic, buy these instead.

Additionally, since the rise of the Pink Flamingos of Aruba (Renaissance Hotel) have become so popular, I feel the need to mention that they are not native to Aruba and do have their wings clipped so they may not escape. Sadly, visiting these magnificent birds is not ethical nor glamorous.

With love from Florida,
Kier
