Chanel Clear Boots:
When I saw the Spring 2018 Chanel fashion show, I knew I wanted to style an outfit that was inspired by the collection. All the models were all rocking clear boots and tweed and I loved the contrast of the two fabrics. I’ve styled these clear boots here as well but this look really is my favorite, what do you think?
It’s funny that I’ve become so anti-single-use-plastic. When I was a little girl my dad worked at a landfill. He, like me, is a bit of a pack-rat and had a habit of “rescuing” trash from the dump- much to the dismay of my mom. He brought home boxes of things, brand new, thrown away by corporations; NEVER EVEN USED. One thing he always brought was rolls of paper. My mom would cut a long piece of it and hang it down the hallway so we could draw a mural on it. Once though, he came home with a roll of thick clear plastic vinyl. I was obsessed with it. I would save all his scraps and make things out of it. I’ve always loved clear, shiny stuff. While it’s not single use (it’s designed to last 30+ years) it is super difficult to recycle, yellows in time, and is toxic to produce. In the future, I will think twice about purchasing anything plastic. I’m not saying NEVER buy it. You can’t go into a football game without a clear bag after-all… but be mindful.
I posted a quote the other day, “we don’t need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly, we need millions doing it imperfectly.” I don’t claim to be perfect and I get conscious of being labeled a hypocrite, which is stupid. Nobody is perfect, but I do my best. If you already have clear stuff like me, or if you want some, just buy selectively, (or secondhand! eBay always has cute clear bags!) and get a lot of use out of it. All these clear (plastic) items were purchased before I knew the full implications and I intend to get my wear out of them. 🙌🏽
