My take on Fur… Why I only buy Vintage

So, lets talk about fur. While home in Kirkland last fall, I went to Value Village, as I always do to see what I could find! I found an amazing faux fur coat, some jewelry, and a couple belts. While checking out they give you a fabulous little punch card- you get a stamp for every $5 you spend. When it’s full you get 30% off your next purchase..I filled up my punch card with that purchase.. On my way out, I stopped dead in my tracks. I had missed the luxury section. The rack at the front of the store with the best items… I felt a surge of upset at first, how had I not known about this? Were there things I missed out on because I hadn’t gotten there sooner? Quickly tho, my mood shifted to pure excitement! A white rabbit fur coat, with a white fox fur collar. I ravenously threw off my coat and tried it on. Perfect. I felt gorgeous. I felt as tho I could be wearing anything and throw that coat on, and look glamourous. I looked at the tag.. $40. Mind= Blown. I rushed to the register, presented my 30% off punch card, spent all of $28, and hurried out before anyone noticed that the coat was obviously mis-priced.. (at least in my opinion).
When I got back to Los Angeles, I couldn’t wait to wear it. And the first time I did, I got a horrible comment on it from a girl wearing leather shoes, and carrying a leather bag… “Maybe someone should skin you alive.” Well, I took some major offense to that. I LOVE fur. I love it. While I think it’s okay to love fur, I don’t think it’s okay to support torture; that’s why I always buy vintage, thrifted, antique whatever you want to call it. Hopefully with a monogram from the person who owned it before, there is something terribly romantic about a monogram on the satin interior of a fur coat. Anyway, back to my point; I don’t support the continuation of the fur industry, but if there are beautiful pieces out there, someone should enjoy them, and I’d like to be that someone. And, bitch, you’re wearing LEATHER shoes, and carrying a leather bag… um, that’s not better, so you should probably shut your over inflated mouth, before I make you look stupid. Oops, too late.
Xoxo, Kier

  1. Totally agreed- people have no right to judge anyone for wearing vintage fur. Unless they are some die hard vegan since birth- in which case I doubt they care. I am glad someone said it.

  2. I love ur dress.. and the clutch is to die for!!!
